HEAVIER-THAN-AIR MACHINES IN FLIGHT
The move to Eastchurch was made in May 1910.
Further development followed and in 1912 Commander Samson flew a modified Short S38 from a platform erected on the deck of H.M.S. Hibernia.
TRIP UP THE NILE
In 1912 Horace Short designed, and the Short Brothers factory produced, Britain’s first seaplane, the SHORT S80.
The transfer of the Shorts works from Eastchurch to Rochester began with the ‘Float Department’ about one week before the outbreak of World War 1 and the rest of the manufacturing workshops followed gradually.
