The move to Eastchurch was made in May 1910.

Further development followed and in 1912 Commander Samson flew a modified Short S38 from a platform erected on the deck of H.M.S. Hibernia.

TRIP UP THE NILE
In 1912 Horace Short designed, and the Short Brothers factory produced, Britain’s first seaplane, the SHORT S80.

The transfer of the Shorts works from Eastchurch to Rochester began when Shorts purchased some land near Borstal at Rochester Esplanade in 1913. The ‘Float Department’ transferred about one week before the outbreak of World War 1 and the rest of the manufacturing workshops followed gradually.
